Dos and Donts of Baby Sitting Jobs

If you want to be an amazing babysitter, then you need to make sure you have all the right skills for the job. Take a few classes through your local community center or the American Red Cross. Practice babysitting by watching your younger siblings or the children of close family friends while the parents are still there. The more prepared you are, the better your early baby sitting jobs will go. You will feel more confident and comfortable and therefore, you will make a great early impression on the families who hire you.

Once you feel you are ready to start babysitting, you need to start searching for baby sitting jobs. Here are a few dos and don'ts you need to know about in order to be hired as a professional babysitter!

DO talk to families in your neighborhood and ask your parents to talk to their co-workers. It is always better for both you and the families for whom you sit if you already know them and they already know you.

DO advertise the local elementary school and places of worship. Hang up a poster and talk to teachers and religious leaders who can pass along your information to interested parents. Place your business cards or handouts in neighbors' mailboxes and introduce yourself politely to potentially families.

DON'T act rude or forceful when you are trying to promote yourself. Many people are extremely busy and simply do not have time to talk to you. Do not take personal offense; just smile, hand them your card, and walk away.

DO follow up with interested parents. If you miss a call about a sitting job, call them back at your first available moment, as long as it is a reasonable hour. You need to demonstrate that you are a responsible individual who is interested in their business.

DO dress appropriately and act maturely when you go for the interview or when you are sitting. DON'T show up late or seem unprepared. First impressions are extremely important. DO your best to make a good one!

You will be one of the most sought after babysitters in the neighborhood if you follow these tips! Check out ebabysitters.com for more babysitting information!
