What It Takes to be a Babysitter

Let me guess: you are a teenager who has realized that her allowance is not sufficient for all the shopping and movie-going she needs to do. I completely understand because I was in a similar situation myself when I was a teenager. The best solution to this problem is to get a job, but jobs are difficult to find especially if you are younger than 16 years old. Therefore, you have to earn money the old-fashioned way: market your skills and hope that someone hires you! You could offer to rake leaves or shovel snow during the fall and winter months, walk people's dogs, or watch their house when they go on vacation. However, one of the most popular and profitable teenage jobs is babysitting! Put up babysitting flyers to get the word out. You can make $4- $12 an hour depending on where you live and how many children you sit for at one time. Sound good? Well, you first need to know if you have what it takes to be a babysitter!

Baby sitting can be a rewarding job, but it is also a challenge. The first thing you need to determine is whether you like children. This prerequisite may sound obvious, but many people overlook this important fact when they decide to make some extra money through babysitting.  Even more critical is the fact that you work well with children in addition to actually liking them. Children can tell right away if you are not interested in them and they will just make your job more difficult. It is important to understand their point of view and enjoy the time you spend with them!

Another important quality of a good babysitter is maturity and the ability to handle a large amount of responsibility. While the parents are gone, you are the adult in charge. If you do not take this task seriously, then the children will take control and everything will be chaos! You need to show them who is boss and prove to the parents that you are someone with whom they can trust to leave their children.

A good babysitter is someone who earns the respect of both the parents and the kids. If you are someone who is up for this challenge, then a babysitting job for you!
